Fire safety is a major aspect of the duty of care that every business must exercise and a golf club is no different. Your exposure to fire risk could come from various sources, which include:

  • Fuel sources
  • Cigarettes
  • Catering equipment
  • Electrical equipment and cabling
  • Careless use of equipment
  • Oxidising agents and combustible materials
  • Impacts on fuel storage facilities
  • Hot working
  • Gas explosions
  • Arson

Our Gauntlet Golf health and safety consultants will guide you through the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, or the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, whilst also examining any assessments that may have been carried out by your local Fire Officer.

We will ensure that you are doing everything possible to minimise the risk of fire within your golf club, and its grounds, and taking all the protective and preventative measures that the law expects of you.

In this regard, we will assess and audit your:

  • Heat sources: electrical equipment fixed and portable, boilers, cooking equipment, portable gas equipment
  • Fuel sources: petrol and diesel tanks; combustible materials and the integrity of their storage
  • Smoking policies
  • Firefighting equipment and its positioning
  • Communications systems in the event of a fire e.g. whether you have walkie-talkies to communicate the fire alarm across the course; audibility of alarms
  • Fire action notices – to assess visibility and condition
  • Cabling
  • Ventilation around PCs
  • Hot working systems (if applicable)
  • Smoke detectors
  • Emergency lighting along escape routes and escape route signage
  • Fire doors
  • Travel distances to fire exits and emergency procedures
  • Record of fire alarm testing and fire drills
  • Appointment of fire marshalls and the training you have provided to them

We shall also examine human aspects and assess if you have any people at special risk in the event of a fire, so that our risk assessment and resulting recommended actions offer complete peace of mind to you, and all members and employees.
